The CTLS programme focuses on the in-hospital assessment and management of victims of trauma and the goals include:
Understanding priorities in assessment and management
Understanding the concepts pf primary (an ABCDE approach), secondary and tertiary assessment
A systematic approach to trauma assessment and management is used that focuses on:
Airway patency with cervical spine protection
Breathing adequacy with ventilatory support if required
Circulation with control of haemorrhage and restoration of blood volume
Disability (neurological) assessment and initial management of severe brain injury
Exposure for full assessment while being aware of the environment
The Course will emphasise:
Sequence of assessment / management
Team role and preparation
Primary survey
Simultaneous resuscitation and re-evaluation
Planning and definitive care management
Ongoing support to optimize outcome
